Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
What Is SEO?
Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the practice of making websites and pages more appealing to search engine algorithms. This is done through a series of both on-site and off-site optimization efforts. The goal is to increase traffic to your website from search engines (such as Google, Yahoo! and Bing). Internet searches are one of the top ways that the general population finds companies. In order to compete with other companies in your market, it is imperative that you put in the effort to be in the top search results for the appropriate keywords.
What can this do for your company?
- Bring you high-quality leads: You can attract 500,000 visitors to your site, but if they are coming to your site looking for a completely different type of product or service, what good does it do? Your goal should be to gain visitors who are interested in the products and services that you offer. For example, if you are trying to raise awareness of the endangerment of jaguars, but your 500,000 visitors are all interested in buying a Jaguar-brand car, then you are not getting good quality leads. With the right SEO efforts, you could make sure your keywords are optimized to attract those who care about your specific product or service.
- Bring you MORE traffic: Once your site is optimized to bring you the right types of people, it is only natural to want more of them. There are millions of people each day searching on the internet. You want your site to have as large a percentage of the relevant searches as possible.
- Provide you with organic leads: When a user searches for something on a search engine, they are provided with a SERP (a Search Engine Results Page). This page may have a couple of ads or paid listings at the top, followed by a long listing of non-paid listings that meet their search criteria. These are called “organic” or “natural” search results. You do not pay the search engine for being on this list, no matter how many times people click on your site. This is your end goal; you want your business to appear here so that you are reaching potential customers organically.
How does SEO work?
You may already understand the basics. You search for something in Google and your search engine of preference magically supplies you with a list of websites that you might want to look at. Have you ever thought about what goes on behind the scenes of these search engines? Have you noticed that if you search for the same phrase tomorrow or even next week, they are typically the same? Why is this? How are some sites chosen to be at the top of your SERP and others are pages deep?
Have you ever heard of a crawler or robot? Each search engine has them. They “crawl” around on every website to gather details on the site’s content. Then they report back to the search engine. Long story short, this information is used to match your site with people’s search words. These crawlers return regularly if you are doing things right. If your content is stale and never changes, they may visit you less and less.
The part that is tricky is that different search engines use different algorithms to determine which pages or sites they think match certain search terms more than others. And the factors that go into these algorithms seem endless!
That is where the experts come in to optimize your site and your content.
Optimizing (the O in SEO) means configuring some aspects of your site in a way that pleases the search engines. For example, increasing your site speed (decreasing your load times), following the search engine’s preference for how to spice up your content, and adding tags to your images that the search engine’s robots can read and understand. These “rules” are set up to help the crawlers judge a site and how a user might like it when visiting it.
Nuclear Networking performs extensive and regular research to keep current with what Google and other search engines look for. We help your site build trustworthiness, which can go a long way in improving your SEO.
What Search Engines look at to grade your site’s reliability:
Length of time online: Search engines favor sites with a good history over brand-new sites. Search engine trust is assigned to the website’s primary domain.
Content and related markup: Photos, text, and video can be optimized to make the search engines happier with your website.
Keywords: Search engines need to know what words and phrases your market uses. Researching and integrating these keywords into your on-site copy within the search engines density requirements play a significant role in ranking online. The processes used to find the right keywords for your website is called keyword research. There are multiple methods used to vet beneficial keywords to focus on. Here are just a few:
A. Relevancy • Verifying the keywords are in line with your products and services. Long-tail specific keywords can be beneficial in competitive spaces.
B. Search Volume • Verifying the keyword data shows that people use these terms regularly. If no one is searching for them, they will never drive business.
C. Competition • Are these keywords the right fit for your marketing efforts given your budget and goals? In many cases, the more competitive the keyword, the longer it will take to earn. Finding keywords that drive leads and sales is our focus.
Links: Search engines will judge you by the company you keep, so your goal is to have quality outgoing and incoming links. Search engines like to see qualified links to other sites and industry resources. Qualified incoming links can also play an important role in supercharging your site’s online position. If others link to your site, it must have some credibility when compared to sites nobody links to.
Fast, responsive web design: Google has now included ‘mobile-friendliness’ as one of the aspects it looks for when ranking a site, since, across most industries, visitors will probably be on mobile devices. Your page load time is also graded and considered in ranking outcomes. Fast responsive websites perform far better in the online race.
Security: Using a Security Socket Layer (SSL) certificate gives your site more credibility. Another helpful boost comes from ensuring your website and servers are up-to-date and free of malware or other threats.
And more! SEO is a multi-headed beast. We’re here to help tame it for you.
What We Do
We work with you to make sure your website and other online initiatives, such as directories, blog and site content, and more, are SEO-friendly. We determine which tasks will give your site the best trustability with search engines. With a Nuclear-optimized website, your online presence is ready for the world. Search engines will then give you preferential treatment because they know your site has reliable information and presents the best in web standards.
What You Do
Patience and Persistence Are SEO Virtues
SEO takes time because it relies on building trust with the search engines. Given the amount of competition, Google and other search engines are extremely picky and constantly refining algorithms to find better ways to only show the best search results on their site. You won’t see huge success overnight, so don’t be discouraged if your traffic doesn’t jump through the roof right away.
If you were selling a house, you’d paint it, clean it, mow the lawn, and so on. All of those efforts don’t assure the house will sell. SEO is like painting and cleaning your site to look its best online. It can bring lots of interested customers but can’t make them buy.
While we will be putting a lot of work into optimizing your web ranking, there are some aspects we will be working on together with you:
- Useful, high quality, relevant content
When you provide useful content, visitors tend to stay longer on your website to consume the information and therefore increase the dwell time. Photos, multimedia, and highly-engaging text create trustworthy sites. This looks good to search engines and visitors alike.
When you add new content to your site, such as new products or new blog posts, we carefully tailor that content to be attractive to search engines, while also being highly effective for human readers.
- Site speed
Some search engines measure your page load speed, rewarding faster pages and pushing slower sites down the results list. The reasoning behind this is that users are impatient with slow loading speeds. If they have to wait extra time for your site to load, they may leave and go find a different site.
If users actually do this, it can do even more damage to your search engine rankings. The users’ actions could decrease your dwell time and the number of pages viewed on an average visit, while increasing your bounce rate. All these factors add up and can majorly damage your SEO ranking. They also will decrease the likelihood that a visitor will interact with you from your website. They are less likely to fill out a contact form or jump into live chat if your site is too slow at every click.
Once your Nuclear Networking SEO campaign begins, you can expect the following:
- First Two Weeks: We work to build consistent and effective online citations, which are the listings on the many online directories that contain your organization’s information. Correctly creating directory citations on quality platforms helps build trustworthiness with search engines.
- First Two Weeks: We provide you with a user experience (UX) analysis that will point to any major elements of your website that could use some fine-tuning. We identify if your site takes too long to load, doesn’t present clear navigation, or is lacking in effective content. This process provides you with areas that can be immediately remedied to see the best campaign and service results. Think of this process as us coming over to your house to identify areas that need to be cleaned before you invite company (traffic) over.
- Initially and Ongoing: We work to optimize the images on your site to increase page load times which helps decrease user bounce rate. We also add tags and descriptions to help crawlers better understand what the picture is and help traffic better understand what the image conveys. Proper image tags and descriptions also assist visitors who use accessibility tools.
- We also work to optimize the content on your website to cater to search engines without any annoying “keyword stuffing” like the old days of the internet. We use best-in-class methods that present your site in a way that is attractive to both human visitors and search engine crawlers. After all pertinent on-site optimization is completed, the focus changes to ongoing off-site optimization.
